Admission Requirements and Procedures
Who Should Apply
We encourage applications from individuals interested in becoming registered nurses. For those just starting to think about a career path as well as those who are interested in career change, the field of nursing offers a broad array of options and a wealth of employment opportunities. The program is designed to prepare students to develop the competencies essential for beginning professional nursing practice, and to build a foundation for study in a baccalaureate nursing program.
Admission Process and Requirements
The Nursing Program admits students once a year, in June. For an application packet, click here.
Currently, the program enrolls 30 students per year. The completed application and supporting documentation should be submitted as early as possible since admission is competitive and decisions are made on a rolling basis.
Each applicant is evaluated based on documentation in the application and accompanying materials. Of primary importance in determining an applicant’s qualifications for admission are the high school and/or college scholastic record and the NLN-PAX (National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Exam) scores. The applicant’s character, personality, and contribution to school and community life are also factors.
The following are required for admission:
- Completed application form accompanied by the application fee
- Academic high school transcripts OR a GED certificate and score sheet
- Transcripts of any college-level work completed
- Two letters of recommendation. These letters of recommendation should address the applicant’s ability to become a nurse
- NLN-PAX scores
The following high school and/or college-level coursework is strongly recommended for admission into the Nursing program:
- 1 year of Math
- 1 year of Biology
Submission of SAT and/or ACT scores is required, if taken.
As per Federal regulations, the status of an applicant in the admissions process can be discussed only with the applicant. The program cannot respond to requests for information from concerned family, friends, associates, or other interested parties.
