COC 728.3: Seminar on Topics in Language Disorders: Multicultural and Bilingual Populations

Course Description Topics in this elective include norm- and criterion referenced tools for assessing and differentiating between language impairment and language difference particularly in pre-school and school aged children. Methods and materials for intervention for individuals who are bilingual or have limited English proficiency are included as are bilingual language development, teaching literacy, family/caregiver education, and cultural sensitivity in relation to one's native language/ culture. Foundations, history and practice of bilingualism, including legislation and educational program models are addressed.
